A Radically Different Approach to Stress in Veterinary Medicine (Part I): Why Burnout Isn’t Inevitable & How Managing Chronic Stress Is the Key
About Amber Parks, DVM, DABVP:
Dr. Amber Parks, DVM, DABVP, is a veterinarian, stress and burnout coach, and clinical consultant for veterinary professionals and high achievers. She is the founder of The Stress & Burnout Coach and host of the Stop the Burn(out) podcast.
Dr. Parks earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Animal Science, graduating cum laude from the University of Massachusetts Amherst in 2005, and received her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine from Tuskegee University in 2009. She spent over 10 years in small animal general practice, including serving as a medical director and clinical mentor within a five-hospital network, supporting more than 15 veterinarians. In 2019, she transitioned to full-time relief work across small animal general practice, urgent care, and emergency hospitals. She became a diplomate of the American Board of Veterinary Practitioners in Canine and Feline Practice in 2022.
After experiencing burnout firsthand, despite making multiple changes to jobs, roles, and schedules, Dr. Parks recognized that lasting recovery required addressing the underlying root causes of how stress is processed and how it drives burnout, rather than simply changing external circumstances. Alongside her clinical work, she began coaching fellow veterinary professionals, which led to the launch of her full-time coaching and consulting practice in 2023. In 2025, she became certified in subconscious reprogramming to help clients rewire root patterns that contribute to burnout and chronic stress.
Drawing on more than 25 years in the veterinary medicine profession and extensive leadership and mentorship roles, Dr. Parks combines evidence-based neuroscience with real-world clinical insight. She now dedicates her work to helping veterinary professionals reduce overwhelm, rebuild confidence, overcome imposter syndrome, and create sustainable careers without leaving the profession they worked so hard to build.
